Meguro Gajoen Hall
Last year while shooting for GaijinPot’s Yamanote Line Japanese study series, I was having trouble finding something interesting to shoot around Meguro Station. Many of these stations look very much alike (i.e. boring and/or a bit run down), and I was challenged to get something unique about the area. I did a little research and found that a minute or two walk down the road from the station was this lovely hall used for a...
Illuminating the snow at Meiji Jingumae
This photo comes from the big snowfall Tokyo received on the 8th of February. I made my way around Tokyo that day, taking pictures at various places trying to capture the feel around the city. For all the snow, the shrine was quite popular this day. In fact, I think there was even a wedding held here that day. Quite a day for a wedding! I really liked the way the snow and Japanese architecture...
Frozen Shadows
This is another photo I took with my wife’s Nikon J1 during Tokyo’s most recent snowstorm. I was a bit frustrated to see yet another storm come and this time not have my camera, but she was gracious enough to lend me hers – under the condition I not let the same happen to her camera that happened to mine! So this time I took with me a large umbrella and held that the entire...
Kyu Furukawa Conder House in Autumn
This past fall I took a visit to the Kyu Furukawa Gardens in Tokyo. My personal experience was that this place is kind of a secret gem of gardens in Tokyo. There are certainly many more famous and considerably more crowded gardens across the city. And normally if a garden isn’t particularly well known, it’s for good reason – perhaps the place isn’t well kept or something along those lines. But I found these gardens...
Squared Off Sky
This photo comes from downtown Tokyo, just up the road from Tokyo Station in fact. It was pretty cloudy this day but at the time there was some light shining through which made for some nice lighting on these buildings. I really like the way the lines work in this shot, and how shaped off the whole thing is. Camera: Nikon D7000 Lens: Nikon 35mm f/1.8G Shot Info: f/9 | 1/125sec | ISO200 | 35mm
