Blue Night Rainbow Bridge

Last night I got together with a friend who lives near me to take some photos around Odaiba in Tokyo. Odaiba offers some fantastic views of Tokyo Bay and the lovely Rainbow Bridge. This is a shot I grabbed while we were out there. It was a really great night – the weather was absolutely fantastic, with clear visibility, but few crowds to speak of. Going on a Tuesday night probably help. 🙂 Camera: Nikon...

Working The Scene From Tokyo’s World Trade Center

One of the many challenges in photography is what we call “working the scene.” It means drawing out multiple pictures from the same scene, in other words, getting different angles, lighting, subjects, etc. This can be difficult, yet it’s important for a number of reasons. Of course, with bullet trains, at least to me, you want to show the movement of the train. It’s part of what makes them so interesting! In order to do that, you can use a process called “panning” which I used to take...

Cherry Blossoms in Matsumoto

Last year at the beginning of April my family took a much needed vacation to the town of Matsumoto in Nagano Prefecture. So far it’s been one of our favorite places that we’ve visited in Japan, although I’m sure the experience was helped by the fact that we had been sick most of the Winter! And I’m sure it didn’t hurt that the Sakura were blooming during our trip either. The blossoms in the city...
