Cherry Blossom Street in Matsudo

In my town here in Japan there’s a great little street known as sakura dori (Sakura Road) which is lined for probably 1 or 2 kilometers with Cherry Blossoms. They usually have a big festival on this road but last year the season came very early and unfortunately they weren’t able to do it. I still go to visit the road though and take some photos. This photo isn’t technically great for a lot of...

Ebisu Skywalk to Garden Place

Today’s shot is another I took for GaijinPot last year while shooting the Yamanote line stations for their Japanese study series. This specific photo is from the Ebisu Skywalk, which connects Ebisu Station to the lovely Ebisu Garden Place. Although Ebisu Station itself isn’t all that interesting in my opinion, if you take this path over to the Garden Place, you’ll find a much prettier and more modern setting to enjoy, along with a host...

Three Is The Loneliest Number

That morning my daughter and I had intended to go up to a different lake for the first sunrise of the year, but ended up missing our train and couldn’t go anywhere to watch the sunrise. So we decided to at least catch the first sunset of the year at Teganuma. It was a lovely sunrise, but perhaps after missing something...
Beautiful Photo of Tokyo

Tokyo On Line

I took this photo back in January from Tokyo’s World Trade Center. It has a nice, fairly spacious observatory on the top floor where they (surprisingly) allow you to use tripods. Considering some of the great views available from the building, it’s kind of a photographer’s paradise. Of course I took a host of other photos, but I enjoyed this one specifically for the way the street was leading the eye right up to the...

Plum Blossoms at Yushima Tenjin Jinja

Although Japan’s most famous flower is almost certainly the Cherry Blossom, the country also boasts another beautiful floral tree known as Ume [oo-meh], better known in English as the plum blossom. Like most flowers these come in a variety of colors, though primarily visitors will run across two specific colors: pink and white. While these lovely trees are not as numerous as the Cherry Blossoms, there are many great places around Tokyo to enjoy them....
