Ueno Burning Bright

I’m not sure how many train stations Tokyo has – hundreds at least, maybe thousands – but I do know that not many of them are especially picturesque. Some are downright drab and run down, while others are constantly under construction, and still others are actually subway stations so there’s not really much to see. There are a few stations however that stand out in terms of the overall view and interestingness, if that’s a word. Ueno Station is among them. There’s a lot to do and see in the area at any time of year, from the Ameyoko shopping street to Ueno Park (which includes a zoo among other things). But as a photographer, one of my favorite parts about it is how many places there are to shoot pictures. I’ve found many nice little spots around the station where you can set up a tripod and be relatively left alone to do your thing. And with a view this cool, that’s a definite bonus.
